Let’s start with Rest. Rest is defined as “to refresh oneself, by sleeping, lying down, or relaxing.” It’s often referred to as sleep, and it’s an integral part of anyone’s daily routine that is quintessential to great overall health.
Rest plays an important role in ensuring you can perform at your best, as your body and mind need to recharge and reset. You’ll find very quickly that when your body and mind receive an optimum level of rest, you’ll be more energetic, aware, and motivated throughout your day.
For example, a study conducted on “The Effects of Sleep Extension on the Athletic Performance of Collegiate Basketball Players” (ref. 1) found that players who extended their sleep time to 10 hours a night, ran faster in half-court and full-court sprints, and their shooting improved by at least 9%. That’s huge!
Make sure you give yourself the best chance possible with achieving better sleep. Our Sportsreleaf Hemp Body Oil contains many active, natural terpenes such as Myrcene. Myrcene is a powerful anti-inflammatory that relaxes muscles and acts as a sedative, improving the quality of your sleep, and helping to ensure your body can get to sleep easily.
Another way to support your sleep is to have a sleep routine. Try and have a regime that is easy for you to follow on a daily basis. This could involve :
Restore. This is an interesting one, it’s defined as “to bring back to a state of health, soundness or vigor”. At Sportsreleaf, we believe in utilizing a wide range of natural tools that help bring us to a great level of overall health.
Firstly, everyone defines a “great level of overall health” differently. We believe it’s a satisfactory culmination of spiritual, mental, and physical health relevant to you. Personally, we utilize several natural tools to help us restore our bodies, these involves:
These tools all work in unison to allow our body to restore itself back to its optimum level of health. For example, scientists undertook a study on the effects of Intermittent Fasting during Ramadan, and found that “intermittent fasting during Ramadan attenuates proinflammatory cytokines and immune cells in healthy subjects”. (ref. 2)
This, in laymen terms means that the study participants showed that intermittent fasting for one month significantly decreased levels of inflammatory markers. On top of reducing inflammation, fasting promotes autophagy. This is your cells natural metabolic process in which it removes dysfunctional or unnecessary components, allowing your body to restore itself.
Contrary to popular belief, your body was made to move. So many people sit at office jobs all day, with hunched shoulders and poor posture. This will become a detriment to your health, and you may end up suffering from back pain. This is why we recommend stretching or moving at least 15 minutes a day.
Stretching allows your muscles to loosen and release stress by lowering cortisol (stress hormone) levels. (ref. 3) This is a great way to start or end your day (or both) and we couldn’t recommend it more. Start with simple stretches for your lower back, posterior chain and neck/head.
We stand by our own product, or we wouldn’t use it. Inside our Hemp Body Oil is another terpene called Terpineol. This terpene has a number of therapeutic qualities, such as anti-inflammatory, antitumor, and antimicrobial. Terpineol is also an antioxidant, which cleans the body of toxins and restores it to good health.
All the above mentioned contribute to our physical health, so we undertake meditation and breathwork to achieve peak mental health. It’s an all-rounded approach!
Recovery is probably the most important paragraph in this blog post. It’s defined as “to regain the strength, composure, balance, or the like, of (oneself)”.
We developed our product to promote natural, powerful recovery and allow athletes to tap into the unmatched power of Hemp. But we’re not going to sit here and tell you how good it is. We’re going to give you the information you need to make your own decision.
Firstly, to achieve a fast recovery from a workout or training session a number of things need to happen. You need to consume a decent wholefood diet, ensuring it’s high enough in protein and antioxidants. You also can try what is known as a Kneipp method, utilising hot and cold baths (we love cold water therapy!) to allow your muscles to cool down and promote adequate blood flow.
On top of that, anti-inflammatory products are also a great weapon to have in your arsenal, which is why we believe very strongly in our products potential to elevate your recovery. Contained in our Body Oil are things called Terpenes. Terpenes are strong aromatic compounds that determine the smell of many plants and herbs, such as rosemary and lavender and some animals.
Over 20,000 terpenes have been identified in multiple plants with over 100 being found in Hemp. Of these compounds found in Hemp many have shown potential for all sorts of effects, such as anti inflammatory properties, sedation and can even be used in conjunction with other medicines while treating cancer.
These Terpenes have shown a very strong potential to elevate your recovery and allow your body to get back to training sooner. If you’re looking for something natural and powerful, our Hemp Body Oil will do the trick.
To sum all of this information up, we believe in a holistic approach to overall wellness, consisting of our three principal R’s – Rest, Restore and Recover. We achieve these by utilising natural tools, practices and products. Please do not take these things as gospel, we are purely educating you on what we as a company do, and we make no claim that these things can fix your ailments.
